This weekend’s heavy rainfall causing problems for people across southern New Brunswick, according to New Brunswick’s Emergency Measures Organization.
Spokesperson Robert Duguay says about 75 homes in the Musquash area were evacuated last night over safety concerns at the East Branch dam.
“The staff with the Department of Energy and Resource Development realized the level of water was extremely high at the dam, and the management plan called for an evacuation when it comes to that level just as a precaution,” says Duguay.
He says the evacuation order remains in effect this morning and the situation will be reassessed today.
Some residents in the Sussex area were also forced from their homes yesterday due to rising water levels.
“The level of water in the Trout Creek area increased dramatically during the afternoon, and then there was a voluntary evacuation put in place,” says Duguay.
Duguay says water levels dropped a few hours later and residents could go back home.
There are a number of road closures across the province due to flooding.
