Jan Seely of the New Brunswick Special Care Home Association says the operators of special care homes are not to blame for rising fees at many private special care homes.

Seely says the province has been nickel and diming the special care home operators for years, pointing out the per day rate has risen by just 13 and a half per cent in 20 years.

She argues the per day rate should be a hundred dollars instead of 77.

Seely estimates the special care operators are getting paid something like 3 dollars an hour at the current per diem so seniors should be directing their anger at Social Development.
