The Higgs government will hire an independent consultant to conduct a review of the response to last spring’s historic flooding.
Communities, response agencies and residents will have an opportunity to provide input.
The review will be made public once complete.
“It is important for all of us to understand how well New Brunswick responded to this event, and how we can all be better prepared for future events,” said Public Safety Minister Carl Urquhart.
About 12,000 properties in New Brunswick were affected by the flood and the province launched a disaster financial assistance program in May.
Provincial stats show 1105 applications have been received to date and 845 have been processed and paid out.
For those who suffered property damage during the spring flood, the deadline to apply for financial help is December 14th.
Anyone needing help or advice with the process may call 1-888-553-8558.
