The Forensics Officer for the Richard Oland murder case has finished up several rough days of cross-examination by the Oland defence team.
Sergeant Mark Smith was asked by Michael Lacy why he allowed officers McCloskey and Oram go wander through the crime scene further than they should have, and not mention it in any of his handwritten notes, or bring it up at any past court proceedings.
Lacy also suggested the 14-hour meticulous search of Dennis Oland’s vehicle looking for any sign of blood stains was too much and instead Smith should have concentrated more on the crime scene, which included a bloody footprint he missed.
A visibly upset Smith asked the court if he could make a statement after Lacy was done and he said “it was never my intention to mislead any court regarding McCloskey and Oram” He added ” I admit to making mistakes at the crime scene, but I am not a liar.”
