A study shows that most Canadian men are not taking care of themselves with an alarming 72 percent found to be unhealthy.
Conducted by the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation, spokesperson Cassondra McCory says the study looked at what men are doing to be unhealthy.
“We looked at five different behaviours: smoking, sleep, inactivity, unhealthy eating and alcohol consumption.”
McCory says 20 percent of Canadian men smoke cigarettes, more than half have poor sleep habits, don’t get enough exercise and eat poorly while almost half consume too much alcohol.
Only 6 percent of men are considered very healthy with no unhealthy behaviours.
In Atlantic Canada, sleep was a major factor with McCory noting more than half of men are either undersleeping or oversleeping.
Men in this region are also the second unhealthiest in the country after men in the Prairies.
A sample of 2,000 Canadian men took the survey in April.
