Someone in the Sussex area was taken for a lot of money by fraudsters and now RCMP are warning the public about some ongoing scams in the area.
The fraud is done over the phone, by email and even with online dating where one person was taken for tens of thousands of dollars.
Others involve you being asked to buy I-tunes, Google Play, or other prepaid gift cards worth hundreds or thousands of dollars and give the scammer the verification codes.
RCMP say the scam involves using real company names such as the CRA, Microsoft and even major banks and credit card providers and in some cases, recipients have been threatened with arrest if they don’t comply.
Mounties say do not fall for these scams and report them to the anti-fraud centre as soon as possible.
