If you spot someone wearing bright colourful socks today, chances are they’re celebrating world down syndrome day!
World Down Syndrome Day celebrates those who have been born with an extra chromosome..
President of the Greater Moncton Down Syndrome Association Sandra Blatt-Arsenault says everyone matters and we all have special abilities that need to be recognized.
Her daughter Carly is one of the children being celebrated today, “One thing that actually makes them extra cool is that they have down syndrome. Everytime I talk at home about someone who has down syndrome, Carly gets very excited. She should be excited and celebrate it, just like we all do. We all have special abilities. We all have ways in which we can help enrich each others lives. I think it is time to validate that and I think it is time to come together as a community.’
Many people recognize World Down Syndrome day by wearing a crazy pair of socks.
Association Board member Ben Vuillemot says, “It learned that there is a whole other level of love that you can have. These kids are amazing in every way. My son Sebastien is so determined. he is as smart as everyone else, it just takes him a little bit longer to learn.”
