Saint John Police say with the return to school approaching they really want to get the word out about the dangers of distracted driving.
Constable Duane Squires boarded Saint John transit last week and found some people still ignoring the law.
Squires would observe someone on their phone while behind the wheel and then relay the information to cruisers along his route. Constable Squires says they managed to nab 13 drivers who each ended up getting a fine of $172.50.
Constable Squires says this is more of an educational approach to remind people there is a six year old law against distracted driving in New Brunswick, and that drivers should have their eyes on the road, not their cell phones.
