With their 3rd meeting in the books, the Saint John chapter of 100 Men Who Care helping another non-profit put over $10,000 towards their good works.
Tonight at Market Square, the gathered men heard from a teacher, a cancer patient and a mom who struggled to find the right care for her daughter.
After the vote, Dots NB won the money.
Founder Maureen Billerman tells CHSJ News that Dots NB is a nod to former Provincial Child and Youth Advocate Bernard Richard and his report Connect the Dots.
She says she had an ‘aha moment’ when she heard him on the radio talking about research and recommendations from that report.
She wanted to raise awareness of those recommendations so she created the Connects the Dots event where 1200 people came out in the snow.
That event garnered national attention and that’s where Dots NB was born because so many people said ‘you can stop now’.
Billerman says the motivation is the need for early intervention and a new 15-bed treatment centre for children and youth with mental health challenges that was announced by the provincial government last December.
