With the feds poised to introduce a new bill reforming sex trade laws in Canada, making them harsher on johns and less stigmatizing to sex workers, Police Chief Bill Reid tells CHSJ News the police here have been focusing on discouraging johns for some time now.
Reid praised the work of the Sex Trade Action Committee, saying the policy of the Saint John Police Department has been led by the opinions of those on the front lines, who work to help sex workers rather than drive them further into the margins of society.
The Saint John Police Department currently sends out so-called “john letters” warning car owners whose vehicles are spotted circling around high prostitution areas.
