Manufacturing is not dead.
That declaration being made by Matthew Wilson of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters at a luncheon as part of N-B Manufacturers Day.
Wilson tells CHSJ News while there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding manufacturing right now, there’s also a lot of opportunity. He says they are nervous however about companies not investing that much in new products and processes and not looking internationally enough.
Some of the opportunities at-home Wilson highlighted were shale gas development, Alberta’s oil sands along with defense and other procurement contracts. He says consumer spending is stregthening as debt levels are reduced and incomes grow. He also sees opportunities in Asian markets, as he says most of them remain constant and growing.
