Findings from a new survey revealing that while a small percentage of junior high and high school students are sending sexually-explicit photos or sexts, a much higher percentage who received one forwarded it to someone else.
MediaSmarts surveyed more than 5400 students across Canada on their online behaviours and attitudes for their Young Canadians in a Wired World study.
They found that nine-percent of boys and eight-percent of girls in grades seven to 11 with access to a cell phone send sexts, and 21-percent have received a sext that was forwarded to them by someone other than the original sender.
85-percent of students who received a sext sent just to them keep it private instead of forwarding it.
