A humpback whale getting a lucky break after it got entangled in some fishing gear 80km off the shore of Campobello Island.
The Campobello Whale Rescue Team got that call on Monday at the next day they went out at first light to try and find the animal and set it free.
When an animal gets caught in fishing lines, the consequences can be dire, according to Moira Brown of the New England Aquarium. Whales need to surface to breathe and she says in those types of situations, if don’t get disentangled there’s a high likelihood they could drown.
The 9 year old whale was rescued after 4 hours of painstaking and dangerous work.
