Most of us consider our dogs to be part of our family and we’ll do anything to protect them. However, with summer almost here and ticks on the move, Rover is threatened by tick bites and Lyme Disease.
Maritime veterinarian Dr. Jeff Goodall says we can usually tell when we’ve come into contact with a tick. For canines though, the signs are very general and not really direct enough for an owner to go to the vet to take a look. Dr. Goodall says its unfortunate dog owners don’t pay more attention to these issues when in the vet’s office for an exam.
He says many don’t consider Lyme Disease a serious threat. Yet, it is and for dogs, it can be more treatable than in humans. He says there are numerous topical products out there to help prevent ticks from biting in the first place.
