Lots of residents want to see door-to-door service continue with Canada Post–but the fact is, Saint John has a lot of group mailboxes already and it seems to be working fine for most communities.
Common Councillor Shirley McAlary says some questions remain about who gets to decide where the boxes go, who cuts the grass, and who pays if a plow knocks them over. That being said, Councillor Susan Fullerton observed she gets he mail from a shared box every day, and has never noticed any issues with the grass not being cut or junk mail left strewn around.
Common Councillor Bill Farren suggesting that we should be proactive and get some answers from Canada Post–but McAlary and others pointed these issues are nothing new for Saint John, and Canada Post appears to already be addressing those concerns.
The switch from door-to-door delivery has been decried as a blow to seniors and those with mobility issues.
