Union demonstrators gathering outside Market Square to protest stalled contract talks as conciliation begins with the provincial government.
The protestors belong to local 1251 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees which represents correctional officers.
Union President Everett Godfrey tells CHSJ News they are the lowest paid jail guards in the country and he charges the provincial government has refused to negotiate a new contract agreement.
Strike action is not out of the realm of possibility after August but that would depend on how many of their members are deemed essential and remain on the job.
