An increase in oil tanker traffic in the Bay of Fundy could disturb and even harm the whales who swim in those waters.
That’s according to the Fundy Baykeeper Matthew Abbott as TransCanada announces their vision to see the Energy East pipeline extended to Saint John by the end of 2018.
He says tankers create a lot of noise which impacts whale and other species so it’s a significant concern for them.
Abbott says while the shipping lane has been moved with respect to endangered North Atlantic Right Whales, the marine mammals still have to cross the shipping lane and as mobile animals they may end up up in the shipping lane again.
