Saint John Energy has released a statement on the circumstances surrounding the departure of its former Vice-President of Finance at the utility, Anthony Furness, who’s facing a second degree felony charge of theft by deception in Utah.
It says Furness was fired with cause in October of 2005 following an investigation into some financial irregularities. A complaint was then laid with City Police and he was charged but left the country before appearing in provincial court.
It goes on to say Saint John Energy was not asked for a job reference.
Furness got a job as Chief Financial Officer with Heber Light and Power after leaving Canada. He’s accused of charging thousands of dollars worth of personal expenses on the company’s credit card.
