St. Stephen Mayor John Quartermain is calling the closure of the Sobey’s in the border community a major blow for the community.
Quartermain says a small town like Saint Stephen will pull all the stops trying to attract a businesss with 10 or 20 jobs to town–so to lose 60 jobs all at once is quite a blow.
Quartermain says they’re still waiting to hear whether the employees will be able to find jobs with other Sobeys locations, and he’s also been reaching out to other local businesses to see where there might be other openings.
