Even though Saint John has the best retention rate of new immigrants out of all New Brunswick cities, it’s still not an easy thing for people to arrive here and start a new life without knowing anyone.
Mayor Mel Norton tells us the YMCA’s Settlement Services program does excellent work, but there’s still more we can do to connect newcomers to what Saint John is all about, especially when it comes to connecting new New Brunswickers to the people who are already here.
The Mayor says we can look to the examples of cities like Regina in which the different cultural communities have their own pavilions.
