Copper thefts in the city on the rise with a more than 20-percent increase since last year and 93-percent over the past three years according to Saint John Police Force.
Police Chief Bill Reid tells us they do have a game plan in progress for cracking down on the problem saying it’s an issue they want to get ahead of it before it becomes worse. Reid says the economy is playing a part in the increase in copper thefts as the price of copper is up, with some recent reports indicating it’s now sitting at its highest price in months.
