Some local fisherman donating their prize catch for a better cause.
Spear’s Fishing & Charter in St. Andrews hauling in a 17 pound male lobster — which they dubbed Larry the Lucky Lobster — and decided to use him to raise money for the Dragonfly Centre for Autism.
Alison Spear tells us she had the idea to use Larry to raise some money. She says in the past there have been others who have caught oversized lobsters and auctioned them off to the highest bidder for a big meal. However, Spear tells us, bigger lobsters, ususally 10 lbs and heavier tend to be “empty” and don’t have much meat in them. So, she says, they decided to house Larry at the Huntsman Marine Science Centre for the month of July and teach others about the importance of larger lobsters in our area.
While you visit with Larry, you can make a donation to the Dragonfly Centre for Children with Autism. Donations will be accepted at Spear’s Fishing & Charter, The Red Herring Pub, The Huntsman Marine Science Center and online @ http://www.dragonflyforautism.ca/
On New Brunswick Day, Spear’s will take some kids with them to release Larry back into the Bay of Fundy.
