The Port City could more accurately be called the Fog City.
Even throughout the summer we often see grey, wet conditions that only seem to be concentrated on the uptown, and clear up even as close by as the airport.
We asked meteorologist Claude Cote exactly what causes the fog. He says it’s a matter of a hot, humid air mass meeting with the cooler temperatures of the Bay. The air mass then becomes oversaturated and results in heavy fog banks.
As our world-famous tides roll in, they also bring more fog to shore with them according to Cote.
