Many predicted that the Paramount site was going to wind up as a parking lot—but that’s not going to happen if the mayor and council has its way.
Mayor Mel Norton tells CHSJ News we have a lot of quality developers in the city and there’s no excuse to see such a prime piece of real estate get levelled for surface parking, especially when we have an half-empty parking garage up the street.
Uptown Saint John also opposes the old Paramount site being turned into a parking lot.
The lot’s owner Paul Daeres already owns several parking lots on Germain Street and Union.
That being said, there’s nothing to prevent the owner from making an application to develop the lot as surface parking.
