Some much needed good news for the Alward Government when it comes to the provincial economy with job growth last month. By contrast 94 hundred jobs were lost across the country pushing the national unemployment rate up to 7.1 per cent but the provincial unemployment rate went down from 10.2 to 9.6 per cent.
The jobless rate in Saint John remained steady at 7.7 per cent. Despite that, the Chair of the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce, Andy Lodge tells CHSJ News businesspeople are more optimistic about the future.
Lodge says the Chamber circulated a survey among its members and found over three-quarters plan to maintain their current staffing levels or hire more people and expect to do better this year than last.
