Some of the smaller trees damaged by post-tropical storm Arthur can be salvaged with a little TLC.
That’s according to Operations Manager with City’s Urban Forestry division Marc Doucet who says larger trees can become unbalanced when big branches come off so those have to come down, but others can be pruned and re-balanched so they can continue to grow.
Doucet says their area of focus is prolonging the life of trees and getting them into a mature state so losing some of the older trees in high-profile areas like King’s Square and the Loyalist Burial Ground is a major blow.
He says the City currently has eight International Society of Aboriculture arborists on staff and says it remains to be seen if they will have to bring in help to deal with the cleanup.
