Positive change is growing in a formerly vacant lot on the corner of Victoria and Elgin Streets in the North End.
Participants in the youth leadership program at the Nick Nicolle Community Center are watering and tilling the soil at a community garden. ONE Change director Scott Crawford tells CHSJ News the project is expanding–and it’s come a long way since the garden was first dreamed of a few summers back.
Crawford says last year community members simply picked and ate whatever they wanted out of the garden–which they had no problem with–but perhaps going forward they’d like to get a booth at the Queen Square Farmer’s Market and turn it into a bit of a social enterprise
The garden is maintained by volunteers and includes cucumbers, peas, and radishes.
