Whether food trucks are allowed to set up shop in the town of Rothesay is a question that remains up in the air.
The Planning Advisory Committee had spoken about the food truck that parks at Cochran’s Country Market called Funky Monkey and in the end agreed to allow it to operate with certain conditions as there are no provisions or bylaws in place one way or the other.
However, Mayor Bill Bishop coming out against having food trucks in the community at the last meeting of council, saying they don’t pay any fees while established restaurants pay hefty tax rates. Bishop going so far as to say they are not what Rothesay is all about. He explains the business community has spoken loud and clear to him and the mobile restaurants are something they don’t want in the town.
Council voting to get staff to review mobile restaurants in Rothesay compared to other communities and report back.
