A sexual abuse case involving a former Saint John air cadet officer in the 1980s has been settled, but no details have been released.
The lawsuit was to proceed today as to whether the federal Attorney General could be sued for damages resulting from sexual abuse commited by Lieutenant (LEF-tenant) Edward O’Leary. The lawsuit claimed negligence on the part of the Attorney General for inadequatedly screening and supervising the former Lieutenant. Earlier, the court was told all of these sexual improprieties occured in O’Leary’s home and not on cadet time–which the Attorney General argued was a reason to dismiss the case.
O’Leary was an officer with the 527 Simonds Squadron.
