Provincial Liberal Leader Brian Gallant says he’s concerned about the impact cuts to federal and provincial literacy programs will have on New Brunswick’s already low literacy rates. Gallant argues high rates of illiteracy translate into high unemployment.
As for the growth in jobs last month, Liberal Finance Critic Roger Melanson tells CHSJ News that has a lot to do with tourism hirings and isn’t a sign the provincial economy has finally turned the corner.
Melanson maintains as long as the population of the province is declining, economic growth will remain sluggish.
