Rothesay’s a little more funky-friendly than you might have thought.
After a flap over the Funky Monkey snack truck resulted in angry townspeople slamming the mayor on Twitter, Facebook, and an online petition, Rothesay Mayor Bill Bishop says he has reconsidered his strong stance against food trucks in the town.
Bishop tells CHSJ News he came out too strongly against the mobile businesses and he wants to apologize to anyone who found his comments offensive.
Rather, he says the town doesn’t currently have by-laws either for or against food trucks and that still needs to be clarified.
Bishop says he’s hoping citizens will come forward and continue to express their opinions and views.
Rothesay Town Councillor Matt Alexander is a supporter of the Funky Monkey, saying he has eaten there and the food on offer is good. He also thinks it should be up to the marketplace whether the food truck remains in business and from what Alexander says he has heard in phone calls and seen with emails, there’s a groundswell of support for the Funky Monkey which he believes adds to the vitality of the town.
