The Waste Diversion Committee of the Regional Service Commission is suggesting curbside service as the best option for collectiong garbage, recycling and compost. The committee was created last September consulting the public and costing out each option.
Committee member Matt Alexander tells CHSJ News option 1 is the status quo with improvements to the blue bins, option 2 has compost going directly into the landfill and recycling collected through the green bins.
He says option 3 is everything at the curbside-recycling, composting and garbage collection.
The Regional Service Commission passed a motion to have Executive Director Jack Keir examine the options further looking at how each option impacts the communities and local service districts in terms of cost. He will report back to the commission.
Keir is a former director of the Crane Mountain Landfill.
