RCMP reminding residents of St. George, Blacks Harbour and other communities to beware of an ongoing telephone fraud scam.
The fraudsters claim to be representatives of Visa telling you that your card has been compromised..
The warning bells should start going off when they ask the VISA number, expiration date, and the three digit security number located on the back of the VISA card. Sgt. Ross Davis says that is a sure sign that it’s a scam.
You are advised to never give out your personal or financial information over the phone.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and report the incident to your service provider.
If you or someone you know has been a victim of this, you are asked to contact your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501.
