The Morgentaler Clinic in New Brunswick making national headlines with its July 31 closure announced after two decades.
Former Director Simone Liebovitch tells us they’ve been subsidizing the procedure for so long the government hasn’t felt enough pressure to modernize legislation.
Liebovitch says now they’re focusing on changing the provincial law that says abortions are only paid for if they’re done in one of two approved hospitals and signed off on by two physicians, and to keeping the clinic building with the hope of offering health services there down the line.
She has worked at the Morgentaler Clinic for almost a decade and tells us sometimes conditions have to get worse before they can get better, and it’s time for the government to step up and bring New Brunswick in line with the rest of Canada. New Brunswick is the only province that doesn’t provide funding for its private abortion clinic.
