The province announcing it’ll be footing the bill for treatment for New Brunswickers who have certain rare diseases.
With an election less than two months away, The Alward Government unveiling the New Brunswick Drugs for Rare Diseases plan which will cover the cost of five drugs for specific rare diseases which are:
- Aldurazyme for the treatment of Hurler and Hurler-Scheie forms of Mucopolysaccharidosis I
- Elaprase for the treatment of Hunter’s Syndrome
- Ilaris for the treatment of Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndrome
- Myozyme for the treatment of Pompe disease
- Zavesca for the treatment of Niemann Pick Type C
It’s expected this will cost the government between 1 and 4-million-dollars every year. The province has come under fire in the past for not covering treatment for rare diseases.
