We first got word of a telephone scam by Saint John Energy and now NB Power is warning customers to beware.
The utility has received reports of fraudulent telephone calls to customers by individuals presenting themselves as representatives of NB Power.
The RCMP has been notified of the scam.
People who are phoned by these scammers are told they have to make an urgent payment to avoid having their power disconnected.
You are reminded to be cautious when receiving telephone calls offering products or services or requesting financial information and don’t give out any personal or financial information over the phone to strangers.

Customers contacted by individuals making these claims are encouraged to report the incident immediately to their local police force, the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/.
