It’s the first ever drone to be used in the Maritimes, and it’s located in greater Moncton.
The Dieppe Fire department now has the use of a drone to assist in emergency and non-emergency situations…
Division Chief Marc Cormier says during an emergency, the drone could be used to assist in large structure fires, or even forest fires, by offering a birds eye view from above that the firefighters didn’t have before.
Cormier says it won’t be used on every call though, only when necessary.
He says, “If they need a better view of a roof that is burning to make tactical decisions, then we can deploy the drone above the building and be able to video or pictures that will be fed automatically to the command post.”
He says the drone will also be helpful in training exercises.
Cormier says it will be beneficial not only to Dieppe, but other fire departments in Greater Moncton as well.
