Construction on a new public service pay centre in Miramichi is expected to begin this summer.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement during a visit to Miramichi yesterday.
The centre will accommodate 550 employees and will modernize and consolidate the public service’s pay system into one facility.
The three storey building will be constructed on former exhibition site property and is expected to open in 2018.
The centre is temporarily located in the Miramichi Business Complex and the Mill site.
In 2010, the prime minister made a commitment to set up the new pay centre in Miramichi following the closure of the Canadian Firearms Centre which administered the now defunct long-gun registry.
