Five Saint John Police officers being recognized for their bravery in the face of danger during a ceremony at One Peel Plaza.
Commendations being given to Constables Nick Roy, Connor Bodechon, BJ Scholten, and Travis Jones for their response to a violent domestic dispute in July of 2014 where a woman was shot and the man then turned the gun on himself. Constable Bodechon tells us it was a very dynamic, intense situation that unfolded very fast.
Police Chief Bill Reid calls it a very traumatic event, particularly what the officers witnessed when they went into the home. Reid tells us Constable Roy for instance, had to discharge his firearm. He says this situation could have been a lot worse and while the woman’s injuries will probably be with her for the rest of her life because of those officers she is alive today.
