New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant doesn’t seem too shaken up by TransCanada’s announcement that the Energy East pipeline will be delayed until 2020.
He says while there’s no doubt the delay is something they’re keeping an eye on we have to recognize this is a $12-billion project and many things have to fall into place. Gallant says they’ve never taken the project for granted.
He says we have to continuously make the case as to why New Brunswick, and Saint John specifically, can help our country diversify our exports when it comes to oil.
TransCanada making the announcement they won’t be building a marine and associated tank terminals in Quebec, a decision resulting from the recommended change in status of beluga whales to endangered.
The original opening date was in late 2018.
