Another voice to the choir against the closure of the St. Stephen Courthouse.
Federal Conservative MP Rob Moore says whether it’s courthouses, or schools in our rural communities, we should be doing everything we can to keep them open, “I think we are all impacted when a service is closed in the community, whether it’s St. Stephen or Sussex for example, where the courthouse is also being closed by the provincial government.”
Moore, who is also the Regional Minister for New Brunswick, says it is a concern to him that people will have to travel elsewhere to go to court. “This might save on the heat and lights for that particular building, but the time for victims, for families to attend courtcases…”
He also mentions police and how valuable the time is for a police officer.
He says we want them policing in our communities, and not spending extra time driving to and from court cases.
MP for South-West New Brunswick John Williamson has also been critical of the provincial government’s decision to close the St. Stephen Courthouse, saying, “This was not the right decision”.
