The New Brunswick Association for Community Living is short a quarter of a million dollars. Executive-Director Krista Carr says that’s the gap between what they receive and what they need in order to meet the demand from people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Carr says the Association receives 200 plus requests for help each month but can only help with half of them and the demand for assistance is increasing.
22 thousand people in the province have an intellectual disability. 70 per cent of the adults live in poverty and 25 per cent are unemployed or underemployed
