Brian Flynn’s goal was the winner at the end of the second period that saw five goals scored and Subban ejected for slashing as Montreal downed Ottawa 4-3 in the opening game of their NHL playoff series……Defenseman Kris Russell scored with just under 30 seconds remaining in the third period to give Calgary to a 2-1 win over Vancouver…..Chicago gave up three goals on the first 12 shots but rallied with Duncan Keith scoring at 7:49 of double overtime for a 4-3 win over Nashville……The Islanders beat Washington 4-1.
In the “Q”, Moncton got a goal from Taylor Burke at 16:20 over overtime for a 3-2 win over Halifax to even the series at two games each.
In the Majors, Washington doubled up on the Red Sox 10-5……Baltimore rallied for a 7-5 win over the Yankees…..Jose Bautista, Devon Travis and Dalton Pompey homered and Kevin Pillar made a leaping catch at the leftfield wall to deny a home run as the Jays beat Tampa Bay 12-7.
In the NBA, the Raptors downed Charlotte 92-87 and New Orleans made the playoffs with a 108-103 win over San Antonio to eliminate Oklahoma City. The Brooklyn Nets made the playoffs with a win over Orlando while Indiana was eliminated after losing to Memphis.
