We all know that talking or texting on your cell phone while behind the wheel is extremely dangerous driving behaviour but what many of us don’t realize is that using hands-free devices also fall into that category.
That’s according to the CAA’s Gary Howard who says some studies have shown they are more dangerous in some cases because conversations last longer due to that false sense of security. Howard says another misconception out there that distracted driving is a young drivers issue. He says that the problem actually spans across all age groups.
Howard says some research shows that 80-percent of vehicle crashes involve inattentiveness or distracted driving so it is a very large concern. He says typically 80-percent of crashes can be avoided with one more second of reaction time.
The CAA has a distracted driving simulator which you can check out by clicking here.
