The Chief of Staff of the Regional Hospital is sounding optimistic the level of care can be maintained even if the health care budget is cut by 10 per cent. The reduction would be part of the Liberal Government’s Strategic Programme Review.
Dr. John Dornan says there’s plenty of expertise to draw upon to come up with solutions even with the perennial problem of seniors being in hospitals awaiting long term care elsewhere. He says the solution is obvious when you have an excess of acute care beds and a deficiency in beds for seniors.
Dr. Dornan readily admits there are areas in healthcare that could be delivered more efficiently.
