Weighing in on the federal budget, Beausejour M-P and Liberal House Leader Dominic LeBlanc believes the Harper government seems determined to give tax breaks to the wealthy and has forgotten about job creation by not investing in large infrastructure projects.
LeBlanc says some budget items such as a TFSA limit increase are not going to help the average New Brunswicker.
He says, “There aren’t many couples in New Brunswick who are in a financial position to put away $20, 000 a year in a TFSA account after they’ve maxed out their RRSP’s.”
Leblanc says what will be helpful though is an extension of E-I benefits for compassionate care from the current six weeks to six months.
More funding for organizations like CSIS, Canada Border Services and the RCMP is almost too little, too late according to LeBlanc.
He says, ” I found it unacceptable, for example, that the RCMP in Moncton didn’t have access to carbine rifles that had been recommended ten years ago, in a report after the tragedy in Mayerthorpe.”
