Expansion plans for the PotashCorp marine terminal at Barrack’s Point in Saint John on display at an open house held at the Diamond Jubilee Cruise Terminal.
General Manager of PotashCorp New Brunswick Jean-Guy Leclair says they want to boost production at the Picadilly mine and their goal is to move from 1.2-million tons to 1.8-million tons. The company says the expansion is needed to handle that increase in production and shipping requirements.
The proposed expansion would include the addition of two new railroad tracks and a new access road from the terminal to the Courtenay Bay causeway which would require the construction of an intersection at the causeway. It’s expected this will take two years to complete from this October.
The existing garage will also be expanded and that will take six months to complete from this October.
