Water levels in the St. George region are being watched closely by the Emergency Measures Organization.
St. George EMO Coordinator Shawn Morton says Lake Utopia is measuring 62.7 feet right now, which is the flood warning stage. “We saw a crest in the levels in the upper Magaguadavic (River) overnight, so we’re hopeful that things will even off in the lake within the next 24 to 36 hours.”
He tells us, at 63 or 64 feet, some residents in lower lying areas will notice the water creeping onto their properties and possibly into basements. However, he says, this is normal, and typically a yearly event for those residents.
Morton says once the levels reach 64 to 65 feet, water will start to creep on to the roads and they may need to re-direct traffic.
He adds they are not expecting the river to reach that high just yet, but the rainy weather is complicating things, so make sure you still drive with caution.
