A pillar of Atlantic Canada’s retail community might be making a dramatic change over the next few weeks.
After months of review of finances and operations, the Board for Co-op Atlantic is recommending member owners sell off their fuel and food retail and wholesale locations.
Board Chair Adelard Cormier says it’s not an easy decision, but the world of fuel and food retail is becoming increasingly competitive and they don’t see a way to remain viable in the future.
The Board is also recommending the majority of locations and assets be sold to Sobeys.
The decision is still up in the air, as member owners have until May 12th to vote on the recommendation.
