A crowdfunding campaign is being launched by NB Families for Midwives today to coincide with the International Day of the Midwife.
Chair Sonya Burill explains that they are finding that the New Brunswick public in general isn’t very aware of the midwifery model of care, so they are going to be developing a portable bilingual educational booth that they will be taking with them to events around the province.
The International Day of the Midwife is also being marked here today with film screenings intended to jump-start conversations surounding midwifery care. Burrill tells us they are celebrating in a province that, ironically, doesn’t have any practicing midwives. She does say, however, that there are discussions happening at the provincial level right now and they’re hopeful a midwifery practice will be implemented here.
There will be a film screening of the Canadian film “A Mother Is Born” in Fredericton from 5pm-7pm at UNB’s MacLaggan Hall in room 53. A screening will be happening at the same time in Moncton, at the UNB Moncton Nursing site at 55 Lutz Street in Room 214.
